“Racism does not need to be fought; it needs to be ended with words that shift our focus from skin color to the truth: That we are all equally human.”

So, what does this mean?

It is the 21st century, and we are still fighting racial battles. Progress has been made throughout centuries, but humanity’s quest toward racial equality is still at a young stage of growth. So, what have we missed?

One thing we seem to have overlooked is noticing the words we use on a daily basis, especially when we refer to others by the color of their skin.

It might seem insignificant, but historically words have held the power to either commence or end conflicts in our world.

What happened on May 25, 2020, ignited a spark that has been dormant in our collective psyche for quite some time but has never been extinguished.

The Trigger

It was a crime that shook the world. It was unnerving to watch the images and video footage of George Floyd being suffocated to death by a police officer. With his last breath, an explosion of anti-racism erupted on all social media channels and news networks.

With the end of George’s life, came the beginning of a worldwide cry for justice and race equality, the likes of which history has never seen before.
